Rock unveils the truth behind a perm -- a permanent relaxer that is, not to be confused with a “curly” perm -- which millions of Black women use to make their hair straight. It's pretty scary. These chemicals can eat through a can of soda if left in for too long! Why would any rational woman do this to herself or to her children (as young as 4-years-old)? Because the end product is beautiful. And who wants "nappy" unmanageable hair? In one scene Rock interviews four high school seniors. Three of the girls have their hair permed straight and one girl is rocking her natural 'do. The girls with straight hair can't understand why this one rebel won't do away with her curly fro. They say they don't take her seriously and she'll never be accepted into the working world if she doesn’t convert. I thought Curly was going to cry. Those straight haired girls were harsh! Rock never analyzes whether women with straight hair are more successful than those with curly tresses but I'd like to think that what matters most are qualifications for a position not your hair!There were a lot of fun and funny moments in the movie. Rock follows four contestants competing in an Atlanta hair show. Talk about fierce and crazy competition! Rock also interviews many black celebs -- many who have insanely expensive weaves…from India! Nia Long (heart her) shed some light on the weave situation.
